Dryer vent currently going to soffit. Reroute?

I am putting in some recessed lights in my new-to-me house and found my dryer vent is plastic accordian tube. It runs between joists and goes out my soffit in the attic. It's a 10 foot run along the joist. It's about 8 feet above the dryer.

I was told this was def not a good thing so I went out and bought some 4" ductwork and was going to pipe it straight out the side of the house along the same joist.

This would probably put the dryer exhaust about 4 inches lower than the soffit...but I don't want to have to cut stuff for no reason.

Is there any benefit for me cut the side of the house and install a dryer exhaust vent or should I just hard-pipe it to the soffit?

Going to need solid pipe in an attic.
How far is it to a wall?
Is the dryer sitting againt an outside wall?

Yes. I bought 4" duct already because I don't like the idea of plastic accordion pipe.

From where the dryer is (centrally located on the 2nd floor) it is about a 10-12 ft run to the edge of the house. It is about a 6-8 foot run up to the attic first.

It is not on an outside wall and there is no way of piping it through a wall without cutting out all the vertical studs in the way.
