downdraft cook top

when our house was built it originally had a down draft gas cook top installed in a center island... the previous owners replaced it with a gas only cook top... problem is there is no vent hood! so if you cook something greasy or steamy it goes all through out the house smell wise and oil wise... there is no way we can put a hood over the island with how it is designed... it would look horrible for one thing and there is a second floor above it with living space... so i dont want to do a hood... any suggestions on a good gas down draft cook top? we want it to be black but some of them look wierd... also are all new cook tops electric ignigted? they dont have pilot lights anymore do they? thanks!

the downdraft vent pipe is still there in the floor to the outside, gas and electric all there...
