Door switch problem in Kenmore Dryer model 110.66922501

Hello everyone

I just opened up the door switch and put aluminum foil in it to connect the electrodes, since the plastic lever broke off somehow. Now the dryer works. But:

Should I now keep the dryer unplugged when not in use. I am always afraid of a fire. Will my MacGyer 'ing start a fire? I don't kmow anything about electrical.

Thank you

I ordered the part. But in the meantime, do you think it could star a fire?
