Domestic refrigerator compressor
I haven't worked on a domestic refrigerator in years. The model number of the unit is:
GTS18HCMERWW The Part number is: WR09X10113 The start mechanism failed in the unit. It is a PTCR/overload device. A PTC is solid state starting device like the 3 n 1 supco. There is a capacitor that plugs into it. Is this capacitor utilized as a run cap or a start cap? I read that these new low current compressors are using run caps now, but I wasn't sure. I had a 3 n 1 on it, but I'm worried it might burn the start windings. Therefore, I'm going with OEM parts. It runs fine with the 3 n 1, as I installed it to get me by. |

you're correct the 3n1 will probably take out the comp at some point. the cap is a run device, when the pill heats up the start winding is in series with the cap. with a 3n1 installed you also no longer have heat protection. they also void [GE]5 yr warranty on sealed system.
