Are dishwashers easy to install DIY fashion?
New $1200 dishwasher has arrived for me at Sears
Easy to install??? I'm thinking, hook up water, hook up power, make sure it's level and balanced, attaching front L-clips to countertop underside. Should I try it? |

It shold be easy the water hook up is the same size. electric goes to the same outlet. Just be sure the breaker on that circut is open. Or you won't know who done the rest of the instalation. And the water discharge is the same size. Just pay your self $75.00 after job is done.

Thanks, Guys. That's what I figured.....and it is "one in one out".
I'd be lucky to save just $75. Can you believe the charge for the appliance tech to come and confirm that the old dishwasher had a bad pump (and that it was almost 2/3 of the cost of a new dishwasher to replace it)....was $94! ![]() That's the kind of charge that got me to thinking DIY on the new one. |

Tip----Adjust the height before you get it into the hole--the back levelers are easier to raise before installing.

Are dishwashers easy to install DIY fashion?
I've installed one DIY long before finding this site. Its pretty simple. even simpler if its one in one out.
I basically did a one in one out recently for my folks when I was trying to figure out were the dishwasher was leaking. It turned out to be the suply hose went were it was kinked. |

to Hoosf point; so there's both sides of the coin. if you had a servicer out he would have found your leak and you wouldn't have had to buy a new one ..people always say it's this or that and usually they're wrong. when they're right and it's not practical to repair they blame the servicer for charging so much instead of themselves for not asking over the phone how much would it be if such n such is the problem..i use to rebuild washers i picked up from the curb and half the time it would just be a sock in the pump or some such..

Are dishwashers easy to install DIY fashion?
We replaced our ancient dishwasher with a new lovely (coincidentally also $1200) bosch last winter. We almost decided to install it ourselves, but we found a place that would install our old one for free and haul it away...
We were surprised when the pro installed the machine. Even though there obviously already was a water line, he had to replace it.... because it was too short for the new machine. (2009 bosch was designed to receive water line from the opposite side from the old thermador) Just be prepared for unforseen events such as ours that might occur.... And enjoy your new dishwasher (we LOVE ours!!!) |

1200 is believable for a higher end model. I've service out twice to replace the electronic control panel on my 400 dollar model. I'm thinking I'm just going back the the old manual dial model for my next replacement. I saw a double outlet valve that just replaces the hot water shutoff valve under the sink if one were doing a new installation. It looks like that would make it easier for DIY.

Are dishwashers easy to install DIY fashion?
DIY job--yes. Easy- -never! The LI DIY'er said it correctly. I do these in my business and each one is different. Sooo many things which are different between the same brands even. Water goes into this side on the old one/ that side on the new one. Electrical can be the same way. Discharge hoses on some of the newer ones MUST be over the top of the new unit and will always be one-inch shorter than you need it to be. It can be done as a DIY project, it may go easy or it may require multiple trips to somewhere for parts. David

just installed the second of two new DW in as many months (wife hated the first one, so back it went.) make sure you buy the "install kit" with the new adapter fitting. this fitting adapts the new dishwasher water inlet (which is the same thread and diameter as your garden hose) to the older and more common 1/2 inch supply line.
read ALL the install directions, and enjoy the savings! |
