Dishwasher Trays Refurbish

Can the trays be painted ? They are showing wear and rust spots on the grids where dishes lay.
The dishwasher runs great, but trays I'm afraid will rust out.
What kind of coating can I use that will stand up to dryer heat and not contaminate dishes ?
If you know of a suitable coating I'd be great-full for the information.

they do make a special rack coating for those. call a local appliance store, I'm sure they can help

Have you checked availability and pricing of new replacement parts?

Thank you for your responses. I'll keep looking for a coating I can do myself.
I know what new trays cost. I don't need new trays if I can touch up those I have.

whirlpool part# 675576. vinyl touch up. runs about $17.00 for 4 oz.
