dishwasher problem

I have a Whirlpool dishwasher that cleans dishes great, but sometimes, during the wash cycle, the water syphons out and it just keeps running without any water in it. The drain hose comes out the bottom, loops up about 2 feet above where it comes out, and then goes back down to the drain. Don't know what the problem is. With the loop in place, does it matter where the hose plugs into the drain pipe? (now it is below the floor level, where it was from the previous owner) Any ideas?

dishwasher problem

that must be [drain] from a really old original installation..you're going to stay in the house for a long time?? do yourself a favor and cap that pipe, move d/w drain to undersink T or disposal if close enough...otherwise you need to put a check valve on that pipe/hose connection...post this in Plumbers section you may have vent problem or some such.
