dishwasher leaving brown marks

hello,
my 8 year old kenmore dishwasher began leaving brown marks on the light colored dishes recently. The inside plastic liner looks almost burnt. I was wondering if the heater element could be causing this. I have heard of dishwashers causing fires, but thought it wqas from the electronics not the heater. Any ideas??

Thanks.

Try running it for a while without the heater....wash or dry. That should let you know if that is the issue.

does the stain on the tub wipe out easily, did it show up all at once or has it taken a while? The element is not going to discolor the tub or leave marks on dishes. Most likely a water related issue.

Folks been sayin "water issue" I think it may be a Piping issue, could be the brass fittings used to connect the washer were only brass plated and the plating has worn off. How old is your water heater? Has the coating worn off of the racks, wheels, bearings, metal spray arms rusty, etc? , Is there iron pipe any where in your system? Any recent changes in the municipal water supply?Changed detergent? How often do you run a cup of vinegar through an empty cycle? Same question for a cup of baking soda? Gimme time I'll think of more. Somebuddy been running their sneakers through a quick rinse?
