Dishwasher installation problem
I bought a Maytag model MDB8859* dishwasher because I liked the sexy plain front. Here is what it looks like:

I was concerned about how one operates the controls before I purchased it, but the looks still sold me on it.

Now during installation according to the instructions included , I find that the top of the door is 3/8 " below the counter top and completely hidden by it. I can't reach the controls even with my little finger.

Should I just drill holes in the counter top and operate the controls with chopsticks? What are some other alternatives?

I like the chopsticks idea or maybe skewers? Can you get a remote control for it? Good luck

If yours has the door top mounted controls, like mine, then all you have to do is program it before you close the door. Yes it's really that simple.

yes, make selection, press start THEN close door.

Yes, but what if you start it that way and then want to cancel the cycle. If you open the door while it is running and don't press the cancel button first, won't you get all wet?

crack the door open just a little, the machine stops running. Its really very simple

Thanks. My much older Kitchen Aide with controls on the door front needs to be canceled. Sure, it stops when the door is opened, but cancel/drain is better.

Anyway, I am glad I don't need to drill any holes. :) (Actually, I was thinking of setting it down a bit lower in the opening so I could get a finger onto the control panel. The opening is 34 1/2 " high, so it can be lowered considerably; although, I would need to modify the top mounting brackets.)

Now, why didn't Maytag make the dishwasher with a remote, like TV sets?
