Dishwasher Installation
I recently purchased a Kenmore Elite dishwasher from a Sears Outlet. The outlet sells returned and refurbished equipment that is essentially "new". When I removed the old dishwasher I noticed there was insulation around the top and sides. My new washer did not come with any insulation. My question is do I need this insulation for my new washer?

Some dishwashers have the insulation under an outer shell. Can you take a picture of it?

I'll get some pictures. Is the insulation for sound dampening or is it to protect the cabinets from heat. I have run it once and it doesn't seem to have either problem. I just want to make sure I am not leaving the door open for trouble down the road.

This installation is primarily for deadening the noise the dishwasher makes. To some extent this is what separates the $$ from the $$$$ in dishwasher models.

Not only would I re-use the old installation I would consider adding more. I dynamatted my steel tubbed dishwasher, as well as adding foam to the cabinet/wall/counter junctions - now it's whisper-quiet.

Thank you. There is a foam or rubber matting applied to most of the outside of the washer (about 3/8" thick). Unfortunately I threw out the old insulation. It seems to be very quiet, it's a fairly expensive unit. I will probably add some more insulation anyway.
