Cutting Through Rim Joist
I have a home that was built in 1955 (Minnesota). I just ran some ducting along the floor joists to the opposite side of the basement. I also have aluminum siding. I drilled a pilot hole from inside of the basement, through the rim joist, but after drilling through the wood, the drill bit would not go further---I ruined 3 drill bits trying push through; It feels as though I am trying to drill through concrete. Are there any particular materials I need to be aware of regarding drilling through a rim joist on a house built in 1955? Frustrating, because I am basically finished running this dryer duct and dryer duct booster fan with exception of cutting a 4 inch hole through the rim joist to hook up the last stretch of dryer duct/vent hood.
