changing old 1800 model stove from electric to gas

I bought an beautiful 1800 circa cast iron, cook stove that was converted to electric. I love to do home canning and need a gas stove. Is it possible to change it? Which type of contractor would I contact and approximate cost? Should I sell it and by a new gas stove?
Thank you for your time,

changing old 1800 model stove from electric to gas

Welcome to the forum,
Finding a competent contractor to do a conversion would be difficult for the simple reason being how many of these conversions are done each year in the whole country?

Classic Reproductions of old stoves that now use gas are available, although they are expensive. I went back to Ohio in 2007 for a H.S. reunion and visited Lehman's store in Amish country South of Akron. They make big deal about being "All Gas" because they sell still sell a lot of appliances (e.g. propane refrigerators) to the Amish throughout central Ohio.

The next thing we are going to do is turn off the gas supply to the stove. There usually is, this is like, I think, a 1/2" or 3/8" gas line, you might want to just replace this. This is a new one. So anyway, you would generally have a gas valve that... Read More »
