I broke the glass cooktop on my Whirlpool range and I ordered a new one. I set the two tops side by side and unscrewed the elements and framework from the broken glasstop. I slid a piece of cardboard under the elements (which are now upside down with the glass top down) to help me lift the entire framework all at once. I got it all over to the new glass but a curved piece of cardboard-looking insulation that encases the heating elements fell out of the metal "dish" that the element rests in. The piece of "cardboard" that fell out is about 3 inches long and 1/2" deep. The heating elements are still buried in the cardboard. Is this ok or should I also buy a replacement burner? The part that disintegrated and fell out isn't even near where I broke the glass. I'm concerned the this missing insulation (or whatever that cardboard-like stuff is) will allow heat to escape to the area where all the wiring is. What is your opinion?
Thank you very much!
