The standard guideline for range hoods is 24"-30", but the ideal height really varies based on the capacity of your stove, the type of hood that you have, the type of cooking that you do, and of course the height of the adjoining wall cabinets that are above it and next to it.

With above-range microwaves the height is usually on the low side because a) the blowers are not that strong b) you don't want the microwave so high it is difficult to use and c) the cabinets above are a standard height and you want everything to line up properly from a fit-and-finish perspective.

Just pick one out and look up the spec's for install. most/all? call for min-66" from floor to bottom of cabinet. min-30" from cooktop to bottom of cabinet. [ most m/o are 16" high]. should be no prob in standard kitchen.
