Appliance manufacturer date?

I bought a used single wall oven and am wondering how old it is.

It looks to be in good shape and here is the information.

Brand: General Electric
Type: Oven
Model: JT912BOF1BB
Serial: ZD647735Q

I went to a web site and put in the model & serial # and it came back with...

"
According to the serial number this product may have been manufactured in LaFayette, GA, December of 1978 or 1990 or 2002 or 2014"

Is there a better way to tell? 1978 vs 2014 is a big difference!

There should be a date on the tag where you got those serial / model #s.

Sometimes it is stamped in ink on some component, or cover plate hidden from site.

look around in back.

Just by the looks of it the 1978 date is bogus, and it looks too modern for 1990 too. If it was built in 2014 then it is a very new installation. My bet would be the 2002 date, but yeah, you'll have to pull it out and look at the back and possibly on some components to verify this.

19278 we didn't have electonic controls. Not likely 1990 either. It would not trust that website for the time of day. They are just stabbing in the dark. My guess is post 2000

Went to GE's website, probably same one you went to and it wasn't much help either. They go by the first two letters of the serial number. First letter is month, second letter is year (see link below). It gives you 5 dates to choose from instead of 4.

One of the choices was 2002 as you mentioned above. By looking at it and the process of elimination, that would be my guess as well. Imo, you can rule out 1947, 1978 and 2014. The two that make the most sense are 1990 and 2002. Just a thought.

Maybe call GE and ask them directly. They may be able to give you a more precise approximate date. Just a suggestion.

Looked around on all sides of the oven and found a sticker.

I see a 6 digit number 121802 which I circled in red. Dec 18 2002?

Bingo. You win. December 2002 it is. Nice job.

If you go to that GE website link in my last post, decipher the first two letters in serial number, it comes up with that month and year as well. I believe you cracked it miamicuse. You get the gold start.
