appliance conversion-neutral connection

converting meile washer and dryer units to 60hz 220 in USA.

have gotten suggested parts from Meile,-one pulley to slow dryer spin rate, both units big drive motors are rated for 50 or 60 hz. four conductor cordsets offers the last question.

do usa hot leg 1 (110v to ground)and 2 (110v to ground) go to euro hot(230 from 1 wire right?) AND euro neutral?
usa neutral- to euro ground?
usa ground to appliance chassis?

if any of this looks ok i'd appreciate hearing about it.

A DAY LATER-so after a little more research, i see that in 1996 nema added these four conductor cordsets and recepticles for washers dryers whatever 220? maybe.

my assumption could lead to alot of sparks and wasted tme and money, so if anyone could offer some more facts that would help.

the washer and dryer are working here, now in my kitchen. I tested them in the garage last week.
I wound up using the two hot legs to their two hot legs, and neutral going to their ground. since i had four conductor wire I took the ground and bolted to the chassis of each unit and ran to cold water pipe.
Its not compliant with the code change in 1996. So that means the neutral and ground arent seperate all the way back to the panel

Are you saying you had to change the cord to fit the rec? 3 wire to 4 wire? Wall rec has 4 wires? If the cord from the appliance is changed to a 4 wire, you should remove the ground bonding strap at the terminal block on the back of the appliance. This should be a strap from the chassis to the 'nuetral' on he block. Remove it or bend it back away from the terminal block.

Will be if you do this. The whole purpose of the 4 wire thing. Supposed to reduce the possibility of electrocution if the cainet becomes energized. Not sure about the grounding to the water pipes in this situation. Maybe someone with more experience in electric will chime in. Seems I have heard of plumbers being injured/killed because of this practice. Not sure if the guy that told that knew what he was talking about.
