Stick shift speed

Going to get a f-150 what's better for manual transmission 6 speed or 4 speed and why?????

bostonwindows30 08-21-2013 09:03 PM

5 speed or 4???????

6 speed will be better than 5, and better than 4. That's why pass cars continuously grow into more gears.
Better mpg. helps to keep the engine in its optimal range.

A 6 speed manual would give better control over the power delivery and better mpgs than a 4 speed auto. But if it is a newer 5 or 6 speed auto, they are highly intuitive and so much better than in the old days that any benefits or drawbacks between the two are negligible.

Get a 5-speed, if you can find one.

If you're buying brand new, the argument is invalid, because the only full size truck you can get with a manual is a Dodge.

The last that I saw was he is looking at a 87 F150.

He has asked a ton of questions in 2 threads about engine/transmissions combos.

But I think it is really going to come down to what is available in his area.

Decent trucks of that age are likely to be slim pickins, unless he is willing to travel quite a ways.

Amen, Oso. Talking about 25+ year old vehicles...condition matters more than any specific piece of equipment, be it transmission, engine, or piece of hose.

Those tended to be rustbuckets.
