power inverter
Will a 750w inverter overstress the battery/alternator? Emergency use only, no continuous heavy draw. 95 merc villager.

Nope,... Shouldn't,...

It is not the size of the inverter, but the size of the load that will determine how much workload is put on the battery/alternator.

If you did load up the inverter to its max, 750w/12v=62.5 amps. Throw in about 15% for the inverter inefficiency and you are looking at almost 72 amps on the 12v system.

If the engine isn't running, it will not take long for the battery to be too low to start the vehicle.

Even with the engine running, smaller vehicles at idle may not produce as much as the load, and you could have a drain on the battery.

Be careful with power inverters. There are a lot of junk products out there.
My dad used to do medium haul trucking and used a laptop in the truck. He had several power inverters MELT. I finally hard wired one into the truck for him which worked a lot better. You get what you pay for I suppose...
