paint color

For my parents 1998 toyota camry. The side mirror replaced and I used duplicolor. The door sticker says 4m9 and every site I went to says it's cashmere beige metallic and the actual paint dried to darker beige. I used adhesion promoter on black plastic, color and clear coat. Is duplicolor just mismatched or is it a matter of using white primer or something else?
Thanks in advance.

Re: paint color

The existing paint is 18 years old and has likely faded quite a bit. I would bet the duplicolor would match what came off the showroom floor.

Give it some time and see what happens.

Re: paint color

Stick/Shift has a point.

Every light colored METALLIC painted vehicle has faded in a few years from the original , So more than likely your parents car has seen some sunshine in it's 18 years .

Just tell them that you made it that way so that it will contrast better so that they wont knock it off again.

Just kidding, AS I don't know how it came to pass that it needed replaced.

Re: paint color

Thank you for the replies. Problem is, I thought I could reuse the original shell (only the inside bracket broke apart) and removed the mirror and the motor and inside is the same color as the outside. I can't find show room photos for this car but every camry image shows the paint on this car, not the dark beige from duplicolor. I admit every photo could be showing faded paint. I'll try another can and see. I put the new side mirror on and it looks terrible. The cap on the can is original color. What came out of the can is something else.

Re: paint color

HMMM:

Did you shake the can enough to mix it well?

Sometimes those cans sit for a long time and separate.

Re: paint color

You can usually have a local paint shop color match your car and put the paint in a rattle can for you. It will be about 3-4 times the price of duplicolor though.
Here's my experience with duplicolor color match, it too wasn't an exact match but it's very close.
