mildew spots

My white Corolla sat outside up north, then sat outside a year in Florida. It's got a lot of gray mildew (I was told it's mildew) spots. Some areas are covered.

I bought a rubbing compound and cleaned 1/2 the hood. But there's a slight orange cast to it now. I got two prices to clean it and both were $100. I don't mind doing it myself if I can find some kind of agent to help.

I suppose not waxing it didn't help, but I had a tough job at the time and didn't have the mental energy to think about the car.

Is there something for car finishes that wouldn't scratch the paint?

edit: wondering if a little baking soda paste would work and not scratch the paint?

mildew spots

A lot of elbow grease should work. Starting with 1200 grit, moving on to 2000 and then to 3000 wet or dry sand paper. VERY GENTLY.
Only AFTER you should have used any polishing compounds.
