94 ford explorer a/c clutch replacement

Any tips on checking the compressor for leaks before the new clutch is installed. I have no special hivac tools except a a/c gauge set and a tank of 134a. The clutch is noisy, sparks, and smokes if ac is turned on. It seems to be cold. Thanks cb

If the clutch is noisy engaged, more than likely the compressor is going bad and starting to lock up. It's prolly time for a compressor

If you think you can, or if you think you can't, you're probably right.
