'72 Honda CL350 Scrambler!
This bike was given to me the other day by a client.
Battery fried. Throttle cable seized. No idea of the condition of the carbs.
Needs new tires.
Question for you guys is: is it worth the hassle to fix it up myself, or should I just sell as is and buy another tool or two?
I really don't have the time, but I could find it somehow... Just afraid to open up a big can o' worms here.
Anyone have experience with this kind of bike? I've done carbs and oil changes and brakes and stuff before on old Yamahas, but nothing this old.
edit: forgot to mention that i put some gas in and tried to push start it in 2nd.
gas leaked heavily out of the petcock when i turned it to "on." no leak in reserve position, so i left it there.
after releasing the clutch in 2nd gear trying to start it, gas started leaking heavily out of the bottom of the bike somewhere - i assume from the little hose that runs out of the carbs.
also, i was testing the tension of the chain and realized that the back sprocket wobbles! the nuts holding it on were finger loose!
this is kind of why i'm hesitant to start tinkering with it. i just think it would take more time and money than it's worth. but i'm curious as to what you guys think.
Lots of people want old bikes. I'm thinking a full rebuild on the engine, some replacement parts (OEM $$$), but you could probably get away with minor stuff to get it running. It all depends on how much you want to do it.

Somebody got a deal. A Scrambler in that condition(complete) is hard to find
i thought it was me getting the deal.
many other people were telling me it was worth between $200-$400.
but the bike wasn't running and needed at least a few hundred in parts and countless hours of labor.
so, i guess we both came out pretty happy about it then.
the guy that bought it is in the business of restoring bikes. he said often the japanese bikes he exports to clients in europe.
My dad was picking up his new VTX1300 (insurance claim, rear-ender totaled his baby) and there were a few oldies in a side showroom. There was a 400 in there they wouldn't even let anybody sit on! They were priced up there in the thousands. Makes me wish I would have kept my basket-case Triumph 500.
$500 is a good "distribution fee."
