2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee starting problems

Hi Dieseltech. Yes you could be on the money with the corroded harness plug. Had the same problem with my Audi. Developed strange gear shifts. When the plug was attended to the instrument cluster failed. New one At $1500.00 thank you. Then the airbag developed a fault. Light on all the time. New air bag computer, another $1500.00 and away we go. So it's not onle Jeep. Currently looking for a job to keep my dependants on the road. Regards Dr Bob.

A 620 ohm, 1/4 w resistor in series with an LED will light the LED and only draw 20 mA with 12v across this network.
For a few dollars you can hook up several of these to key points in the vehicle's electrical system. The next time the problem shows up look and see which LEDs don't light.
I used four of these to troubleshoot an intermittent no crank in an '89 Sentra. It turned out to be the clutch relay contacts that were failing.

Good day I have experienced the most fun with this electrical problem. If this is what you call fun. My gauges were jumping, no power any where, ticking sound from the dash, would not start. Avr test from dealer stated short in the battery (it was a brand new eliminator which canadian tire tested and results came back perfect battery). Installed New Mopar Battery anyway to start somewhere because the dealer insisted it was a defective battery. Same issue one week later. Great job Dealer what a joke.

I traced the negative cable from the battery and traced three grounds so far, ( 1-on the bottom of the block, 2-behind the fuse box beside the battery, 3-on long rod sticking out beside oil dipstick) cleaned them with 80 grit sand paper plus a fine wire brush and the problem hasn't occured in four days. Still looking for more grounds and will continue to clean them once found, although I think I have solved the problem. Hopefully this helps you.

Sounds like the alternator not fully charging. They can fail intermittently.
