Hi, I hope this is posted in the correct forum. We are getting ready to break ground on our home in a few weeks. It is a farm house style home. We have dreamed of this home for about 15 years. I always anticipated having oak trim. However I have looked at a lot of homes lately (my DH says I am obessing) and noticed that white trim is very popular. It looks so easy to match colors with and makes the rooms look brigther too. Our last home had oak trim and was nice, but it seemed difficult to match colors too. Would a farmhouse style have white trim? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
One of the reasons white trim is popular is that so many houses are trimmed out in MDF instead of wood. Most people don't have the choice to paint or stain. They have to paint.
I think you could go either way for a farmhouse. Considering the colors and types of finishes you are planning for your walls as well as the kind of furniture you have will help you to come to a decision.
A few years ago I had the pleasure of working in a restored farmhouse and they had painted the door jams white and stained the oak casings and base and it looked completely amazing. It is more work of course, but it certainly gave them a stunning and unique look.
