when painting wood trim and cabinets

oldrivers Member   Join Date: May 2009 Location: anoka county mn Posts: 263	when painting wood trim and cabinets in going to try painting my dark stained wood trim and cabinets a white color, do you need toapply a sealer after its painted. whats that sealer painters use that you can smell a block away and makes you unable to be on the job when theyre using it , seems like really good tough stuff.

Ive always guessed its to make painted pine a soft wood more harder after it has a sealer or sheallac etc ? applied over it., not sure though.
