when painting wood trim and cabinets

in going to try painting my dark stained wood trim and cabinets a white color, do you need toapply a sealer after its painted. whats that sealer painters use that you can smell a block away and makes you unable to be on the job when theyre using it , seems like really good tough stuff.

I have never heard of applying a sealer AFTER painting, what would the reasoning be?

You can apply a sealer coat but that is usually done after a glaze.
