What to do about my trim? (oil based paint content)
So... my trim is peeling ... a lot!

My guess is that if the sweet old lady that lived there before us had the same aehmn ... "contractor" paint them who "remodeled the bathroom" then he just slapped latex over the oil based paint after wiping it with a rag. Did I mention it's peeling!

I honestly think I can scrape all teh latex off in about an hour.... which would leave me with the old oil based BROWN painted trim.

I've been reading about TSP to clean the surface with, but like so many other fun things it appears you can't actually buy the "real" stuff anymore.

So what the heck do I do?

I need to get to a point where I can apply latex trim paint over the oil based paint?

Liquid deglosser or good old sandpaper??

Sorry stupid question but is this inside or outside?

Not a huge problem, Pete. If you can get all or most of the latex off you are well on your way. Sand the old oil finish up enough to scuff it in prep for primer. Wipe off the dust and apply a bonding primer like Zinsser's 1-2-3. Allow it to dry for a day or so since it's in a bathroom. Apply your preference of topcoats like SW's Proclassic. What may make the job go a bit better is if you can gently remove the trim (after marking where each piece goes) and then do all your sanding/cleaning prep on sawhorses. Then you can apply your primer and the first coat before re-installing. Then fill all the nail holes (spackling is fine) and allow the nail hole filler to dry. Apply additional coats of spackle as necessary to make it flush. Lightly sand, prime the spackled spots and apply final coat of finish. That's how I usually go about it.
