What is the best way to strip this kind of siding?
See the image below:
http://www.ptshardwood.com/Portals/4...etail/Cove.gif I've seen the Paint Stripper Pro and it seems to work wonders, but I can tell that it would be ineffective on the beveled part of this siding. Is a normal hand paint stripping tool the best thing to use? Chemicals? Heat guns? How difficult is it to sand this area as well? Thanks for your help. |
It's referred to as Novelty Siding. Commonly made from pine as a sheathing/siding for sheds and camps.
Are you stripping it to stain or scraping for a paint prep? |
Are you calling my house a shed??? Just kidding.
There must have been a good deal on this style 70 years ago, because it's what's on most houses in my area. I'm planning on scraping and repainting. Since you seem to imply that the degree of paint removal depends on the style of finished desired, do I only need to remove the loose, flaky paint if I am repainting? I was wanting to remove as much paint as possible to ensure that my paint job would last as long as possible. Thanks. |

You don't need to get ALL the paint off - only the areas that have lost their adhesion. Good luck with the shed..... |
Towards the end, I bought an infrared stripper and it is an amazingly tool. Rent a good one and good sharp scraping tools, including one contoured to that groove, and this will go fast.

SDSESTER: I have the same issue. I've had trouble locating a scraper thatt is "contoured to that groove". Could you make a recommendation of a tool or supplier? Thanks!

Both Alway and Hyde make contour scraper sets. Small set should do. It has six two sided blades so 12 shapes for both interior grooves and external corners. Guessing $15 retail? Try amazon if your paint store does not have them.
I also have a Dremel contour sander I got in a parking lot sale for $10. Think they retail for $60? It is cute but worth no more than $10. |

Here I thought you were alive all this time:laughing: |
