We need advice on painting proches

Our porches have been stained with an exterior porch stain that was applied about 5 years ago. The porches look bad now and we want to go to a paint. It will go the style of the house, and we are hoping that the porches will look cleaner. We want to apply the right steps and use the proper quality and type of paint. Any expert advise?

It would be helpful for you to answer a couple of questions. Are you talking about the flooring or vertical surfaces? What products were used previously?

One thing to always remember about an exterior, after the next rain or wind storm it will look somewhat dirty again. If you are planning on hosing it down often to keep it CLEAN looking different products will withstand that type of, shall I say it, abuse better than others. Outside is outside and is not meant to be perfectly clean IMHO.

I am sure the EXTERIOR PROS will come in and give you some good advice.

I don't like paint for porches. Why? Because the paint lays on the surface & with heavy foot traffic, peeling becomes a big, big issue. In addition, you now create a slippery surface unless you add some grip additive to the paint. If your stain has held up for five years is there any chance you might just want to freshen it up with a thorough cleaning and a recoat? This would be the least expensive option requiring far less prep work.

To start the painting of your porch, you have to choose a paint color. The paint color you should choose must blend on the existing color of your home exterior. Better make use of your very best judgment when it comes to choosing the paint color and try not to go over the top.
