US Coatings products
I've found a supplier of cross linking polyurethane paints and finishes that makes some juicy sounding claims for the longevity of their products, like 25 years for housepaint. Their URL is uscoatingssolutions.com (nicely done website). Anyone have any experience dealing with them or their products?
In my opinion... there is NO "Paint" product on the market that will last 25 years... the paint may still be on the structure... but what condition would it be in... there are wayyyyyy.... to many variables involved... the conditions would have to be PERFECT for 25 years... impossible... outlasting the weather, expanding and contracting, etc etc... that would be a strong claim to make...
just look at Vinyl Siding that is 25 years old...(if its even been around that long) they sold that by saying in wont crack, fade, peel, etc...it dont peel but it sure does crack and fade... nothing will beat the eliments...
My suggestion would be to just do the proper preparation... apply ONLY premium paints... and if you maintain your exterior each year... your paint job should last a few extra years... normally 7-10 years is recomended for re-painting...you could extend that by maintenence
Maintain your home by inpecting the caulking around your windows, doors, trim siding, etc... if it shrunk and split... re-caulk and touch up...
check for areas that the paint looks loose... and prep it and touch it up...
make sure your house has gutters so the water doesnt splash up on the siding...
do a light power washing each year to remove the dirt and grime build up or to remove mold/mildew...
apply the cleaner and let it soak to do its job and the rinse... you dont need to POWER wash it...
Point being... is that these products that some of these companies are claiming to last a life time (25 years) or give a 12 year warranty and all that... the conditions would have to be perfect!! and im sure there is alot of fine print to read....
thats just my opinion...
I can see why someone would be intrigued
They're not the first miracle coating to be on the market
So far, none have proved to be
I truly don't believe this one is, but I could be wrong
My questions would be, if the product fails in 5 years, will the company still be around to honor the warranty?
I apply products from name-brand hundred year old companies that have 25 year warranties, does that mean it won't look like butt after 5 years?
No....I tell my customers right off the bat-it won't fail due to a manufacturing defect for 25 years
Expecting it to look like new for 25 years is unrealistic
I'd think I'd want a change of color before 25 years is over anyway lol
I didn't see a price off-hand, I'd like to know what they are getting
A pretty penny I'll bet
Anyone used Porter paints (Permanizer), ive used it both in flat and satin apart from the ease of application it seems to have something like a plastic additive in it - i believe they also claim long life for it. Maybe i will have to wait for 15 years or so to see if it works.
Actually there is a paint coating that last for up to 30 years. I used to be a contractor and spray applied it myself (professionally) on a few homes in Plymouth, england. They still look good today. And yes im being serious! Check out my website at http://www.neverpaintagain.co.uk
We are the company that have been working very hard to change the image of exterior wallcoatings, and we have campaigned for years to kick the cowboys out. take a look at my site, any comments appreciate. We also accept related articles if you publish.
(We are nothing at all to do with any USA company who use the term "Never Paint Again", we are trademark owners in the UK.)
checked out this company's web site and it left me with a few questions-
1-whats there professional affiliations? Most "coatings" manufacturers that have time tested, industry recognized products, belong to organizations such as The Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) , NACE , or PDCA. I didn't see any
2-the web site is a sales pitch even in the application instructions:(
3-a good coatings manufacturer will give results of lab testing on their products ie, pencil hardness,elongation,etc..
4-my opinion? when a company gets good with one product-move to another area, develop and perfect another and so on...these guys have way too many products, too soon. 25 year gaurantee? Lets see some independent test results , not a sales pitch!:D
the site IS a sales pitch!
with ref to the above, the site IS a sales pitch. It was designed solely as such and has never pretended to be otherwise.
I am NOT a paint manufacturer, although we were once affailiated to one!
I hope that answers your question!
http://www.neverpaintagain.co.uk is a commercially succesful, if a little underdeveloped, site i have run for many years, and was once owned by a paint factory, then a contracting company, and now run by me, and soon someone else as i'm selling it, especially as its capable of making a lot of money.
Anyway, i agree with the posters above, but i think they "painting the wrong end of the stick! (!) as they think my website owned by some huge company who as such, is not pulling their weight.
. well, its not, however, if any paint companies are reading this and fancy buying a brand and a website "off the shelf", i promise to put loads of techy info on there for you, and ill post again when thats done.
..........i wouldnt want to appear non-credible would i???????? :)
Love from good old england...............
