type of paint needed for aluminum siding
I have a 1969 mobile home that has aluminum exterior. Currently it has a white paint which looks kinda ugly. I am planning on repainting my exterior. Can someone please give advise such as type of paint and prime, or do I need one? should I spray paint or roll paint?
any tips would be appreciated
Aluminum siding needs to be cleaned well first. A mix of tsp and water works well, use a nylon scrub brush and a pressure washer on low pressure or hose. Only bare aluminum needs to be primed. I like to prime with Sherwin Williams DTM bonding primer. Almost any quality latex with 100% acrylic binders will work as a top coat. I usually use Sherwin Williams Superpaint on aluminum and have never had a problem. The key is cleaning well and using quality products. Spraying will give you the best result, you can roll, but I would use a low nap mohair cover, as it will give you a fairly smooth finish.
I think I am going to stick with rolling because I am afraid of paint going everywhere.
