Two colors meeting in a corner
Hi. I'm preparing to paint a house that I moved into last July. It's new, so all of the walls are currently white. The only problem I'm having so far is that the back wall of the living room runs into the kitchen area to the back corner of the house. I want to paint the living room and kitchen different colors, and have tentatively decided on brown for the living room and green for the kitchen. However, I'm worried that the two different colors meeting on the interior corner will look awkward.

If they don't meet in the corner, then they would meet at a spot on the wall where the kitchen starts, and would result in just a straight line up the wall with nothing to break it up.

Any suggestions?

Painting a shared wall one color is the usual course of action when more than one room shares the wall, and the rooms are different colors

It doesn't have the be one or the other color, it could be an accent wall in both rooms with a color that works in both

Changing color at the corner is extremely common
Changing color in the middle of a wall-not so much
I have rarely seen it done well (rarely seen it done at all as it usually doesn't look right), and mostly it involves fake beams/trim to mark the dividing line...

Dividing in the middle of the wall will make the room look smaller. In my house, I painted the longer wall ajoining both rooms the color of the more dominant room, in my case it was the living room and dining room. The shared wall between them is the color of the living room. It looks great. The rooms share a wall, don't fight it, embrace it. Whichever room is the most open to view from the most common place, like a hallway, is the room I would choose to paint the shared wall that color. The other room will open up as a seperate room as you enter it.
