Tub in Bathroom Needs Refinish

My tub is in a sorry state. I saw a kit to refinish it in a hardware store for $50, but I am worried that I won't be able to get the finish that I see on the box. Is this an easy task or should I call someone in to do it. Here's what I'm dealing with:

That tub was already refinished. You see what the results are. I have never had anyone tell me a tub refinish has lated more than a few years.

I doubt that you will be satisfied with the results from a $50. kit. Either have it done professionally or replace the tub. If it were me, I'd just replace the tub.

Tub in Bathroom Needs Refinish

The right way to re finish a tub is to first use the right products, midwest chemicals has great refinishing products, use an hvlp sprayer, and use a special heat lamp that will instantly cure the finish, but for a diyer to purchase the tools necessary it would cost thousands. The heat lamp along is $1,500. If done correctly it will last a long time. In your situation I would either call a refinishing company or just replace the tub

It never occurred to me that it had already been refinished, but now that it has been pointed out it seems obvious. Thanks. I will look into both options and stay away from doing it myself this time.
