Tips on Applying Tape to prevent paint peel off

Put tape on a edge.....where paint met wood trim. Needed to do some sanding on the wood. Did not want to touch wall.

Aura Paint - Matte - 3 weeks old .
Blue non edgelock 3m tape.

When I removed the tape....it removed some of the pain (from where the edge meets the trim and then some).

I guess it happens to all of us.

Any tips on how to prevent this from happening ?

Four thoughts:

Give your aura paint more time to cure.

Leave the tape adhered to the surface for as little time as possible.

Use the specialty blue tape that is designed for delicate surfaces.

Paint coming off could be sign of adhesion issues between coats.

Tips on Applying Tape to prevent paint peel off

I'm thinking it was a combo....

As the edge was a cut in edge....in which the edge was not 100% fully adhered to the wall, as when I removed the tape while the paint was wet previously....there was a smigen of lifted paint ...not a hard clean edge. I was planning to take a blade and clean up the edge when all the renov was done. I suppose the paint stuck to tape on this *lifted* edge and peeled along with it.

I often will run a putty knife or a dull pocket knife ( oh yes- i have a swiss miss for just this!) on the edge of tape before pulling. Prevents pull up on the wall.

Put tape up, paint edge, pull tape off immediately while still wet...
