SW Private Label

Don't know if private label is the right term to apply, but I had heard that Sherwin Williams paint is also available under the brand name Pratt & Lambert. I was wondering if any of the pros had experience with P & L and if so, how did it compare with the SW brand name in terms of applicability, durability, cleanablity and the all important price.

That would be an incorrect way of describing the relationship, but they are related

P&L is a paint company owned by SWP (Shermie Williams Paint)
They are separate in as much as they do not sell the same products, relabeled or otherwise

Separate facilities, products, even distrubution, etc...
It's just that SWP bought P&L

SWP also owns a number of other companies, I don't have the list here off-hand, but it's a fair amount including a decent number of paint companies

I've used P&L on occasion
It was just fine, I could use it again or recommend it
Price...eh...hard to say
SWP products are heinously expensive in my area, so just about anything is better priced
I know other areas the SWP products are more reasonable, so it may be even a smaller difference there

Historically P&L has been known as a super high priced product with a reputation to go with it. I'd use it anytime the budget allows.

However, in the last 10 yrs. paint technology and chemistry has changed so much, it would take some serious research to give an accurate assesment of todays P&L with other similar products.

Well I agree with your assessment of the ridiculous high price, but I have never felt that it's quality was up to the price. To me it is just one of those names that architects and decorators like to spec. I'll take Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams without any second thoughts.

It's a "bandwagon" thing, and many are herd animals
