Went to S.W. for bathroom paint for walls. They have a sale going on and were too busy so I left and will go back another time.

In case someone new waits on me, I want to be sure I get the right paint.

Does anyone know the name of the moisture barrier paint at S.W.

thank you.

if this only comes in gallons I'm not sure what to do. I want 2 colors for the small bath. Each wall is only about 80 sf, so that will be a lot of wasted paint, unless I try to use it in the garage later on.

Once a can is open what's the life span of paint? I have too much to do to even think about starting on the garage now.

Lousy, Startingover, we haven't been out of the 20's all week. Big storm a brewing in the middle of the country and may give us 3-6 inches of snow on Tuesday of next week. I'm sure you're really freezing down there in sunny Florida!

I'm sure I want a bathroom moisture resistant paint, so if SW doesn't have this as another poster said, what's the next choice in a bathroom paint?

Maybe they can order it for me. Keeping my fingers crossed and going there this afternoon.

chrisn, and you don't have sinkholes in CA either.

The "bath " paints are either formulated to be low sheen ( like BM Aura B+ K) , but not needed in the eggshell and up sheens, or they have the mildicide.
Almost all eggshells will work very well.
It is the sealed surface to moisture that is most important.
But if you need the can to say Bath- go find it.

thanks Cdaniels.
I appreciate the info. I had colors selected at SW and thought I'd walk in and get what I wanted with no problem. Besides, SW gave me a contractors discount since I was doing a whole house and that has been nice.

I like HD also, so will look at their colors this week.

BJ, "many times" interesting. Twice, when I inquired about ceiling paint. But, I guess twice could be called 'many'.

I work at Sherwin Williams, and best bet for kitchen, baths, and active homes (kids) is Duration. It has a moisture barrier in the paint and low VOC. The suggested paints are discontinued, and mixing paint is not recommended. Right now, most of the stores have Duration on sale, if not, it probably just ended and will start again next month. Only other real option would be Emerald. All paints are NOT the same. Manufactures use additives in the paint for desired effects like moisture barriers. Duration will be washable after 30 days as well.

The ceiling paint we currently sell is Eminence. If this is your bathroom, I would still suggest Duration because of the moisture barrier. Remember, heat rises and all of the steam will be directly on that area.

Actually S-W does still make Bath paint. not only is it on S-W's website but it is also in their system. I went to another store who found a store that carried it and put in an order for me that will be on their next truck.

Good information. Thank you all.

This has been the hardest decision. The problem with the first recommended Zinsser Perma White was that I read reviews saying it couldn't be tinted to a dark color, which is what I planned.........to match one shower curtain.

Reading reviews on BM Aura, I read a lot about "streaking". But then one SW review said there were lumps in Duration. Another main concern, is chemicals which I try to avoid because the person using this bathroom the most has allergies. That's what's holding me back from adding mildecide.

This is a guest bath, but guests often stay 2 weeks at a time, so it gets more use than many guest baths. Also this is Florida so mildew is more of a concern here.

My Zinsser 'Gardz' arrived and my walls are now primed. One review warned how runny it was and how badly it splatted everything rolling it. With that in mind, I cautiously brushed a few strokes to test. It went so smoothly with a brush that I felt better able to control the splatters and runs, so brushed all the walls.

After all the information and research I'm leaning towards just using a semi gloss.
