My wife decided to surprise me with painting my office Wisconsin Badger Red! Well it looks terrible and we have went through 3 gallons of paint. She primed it with a special primer for painting red walls. Well she missed some spots with primer which made pink spots. She then primed over that and re-painted and now we have dark spots. Not to mention the streaks and the difference between the brush painted corners and the rolled walls. Please, how can I fix this???

I'm going to resist giving advice like: Divorce her and marry a painter.
OR ask if you can: sneak your girlfriend in to re-paint the walls.
OR one coat of Gator orange on the bottom and Gator Blue at the top should cover this nicely.:jester:

Red latex is hard to get right ( even for the pros) [yellows and reds I figure time & materials for 3 coats]. It gets even harder unless you are using a flat finish.

Can you post a couple of photos and advise the products that you used?

Go to your nearest Benjamin Moore dealer and get the color in your preferred sheen (Matte or Eggshell) of Aura Interior paint

While there, purchase a quality Purdy, Wooster, or Ben Moore cut in brush, and an Aura roller sleeve

Cut in the whole room with the Aura, moving quickly (Aura dries quick and doesn't take kindly to over-brushing...or over rolling)

Then roll the whole room
Do not over roll

Do not go back to fix mistakes or holidays as you are painting
Touch them up later, after it's dry (40/60 min)

If the over-all color of the room is pretty close you may only need one coat

You will get the best color if you can pick out a Ben Moore color and use that rather than use another company's color or have them match a sample

Good luck

Behr in deep garnet (very deep red) can be made to look just as nice as anything else, but the labor just isn't worth it. (This was a satin finish which made it all that much harder to work with) There is no sale price that would make me attempt to paint with Behr again. Red tinted primer is a mistake, that I will never be talked into again, back to gray tinted.
(Before anyone screams and asks why I went and tried Behr, We used a regional paint shop for years that made their own paint. Then they sold out. We buy a large amount of stuff from Home Depot, and they talked us into trying there paint line, It was a mistake.)

The Behr paint can be made to work. It is not an easy paint job by any means. My Living room looks done perfectly, but was at least twice the work it would have been with a different brand of paint.

I painted bring sunshine yellow in the kitchen. I used a gray tinted primer, Zinsser, and Truevalue EZcare for the Yellow. (again a satin finish here) 1 coast of primer, plus 1 coat of yellow looked quite nice and would have been acceptable to many people, 2 coats of yellow looked perfect.

When in doubt of your color choice (and how well it will apply) or your skill level with painting, go with a really good paint, Sherwin Williams, or Benjamin Moore. Although based on my most recent experience, I am very tempted to recommend truevalue paints with zinsser primers.

Given enough time and skill, (and enough paint) cheap paint can still produce really good results much of the time. However, good paint, makes it much easier. Your time is worth money why waste it with cheap paints? I won't make the mistake again.

OOhhhh noooo! My wife did red paint in our bedroom. I told her red was a bad idea but she didn't believe me. It took 5 trips to the paint store to get it darkened with black until it was the correct color. It took her 5 coats to get everything covered properly. She got red all over the trim and it's still there 7 years later because I refuse to touch up after her sloppy paint job.

The worst part is it's semi-gloss. She refuses to listen to me about that as well. The whole house is semi-gloss and looks horrible especially when the light shines on it.

Sorry...whenever I think about my red bedroom, I have to share the nightmare to keep others from making the same mistake.

In my house, the previous owners spent waaayyyy too much time reading decoration magazines, and not nearly enough time learning to do the job properly. In the family room, they decided to do an "accent wall" in a color that could only be described as "scab-red".

With semi-gloss.

And badly done drywall patches, nail pops, etc.

And direct lighting to highlight all this.

In a room with pale pink walls.

After a coat of SW PrepRite ProBlock and two coats of Satin SuperPaint in a pastel yellow and all is again right with the world.

o boy,,, I used a grey tinted primer, and then 2 coats of red and it turned out beautiful, try useing tinted grey killz or any grey tinted primer and then do your red. This should fix you right up.:)
Yep, Reds and Yellows are the worst. Kilz2 is great as a primer for just such an ocassion as it dries flat and will accept the next coat better than Zinsser 123 which is more like a semi-gloss.
