For stencils should I use a brush or roller?
For stencils should I use a brush or roller?

Can I get away with 1 coat using the top quality paint? (The stencil is being painted over a much lighter color wall).

Google stensiling and get a lot of education. If the stencil is going to be total opaque , you could use a mini roller.
The hardest part is having the paint not creep under the stencil. There are a number of ways to combat this- use a spray on rubber cement adhesive is one.
But the old way is to use a stencil pounce brush. That way you are not wiping or forcing paint under the stencil.
Might have to go to an art supply store for this.

Not an expert by any stretch with stencils, but, most people I see that do them use the round brushes and use a "dobbing" technique to fill in the stencil. I would think a roller would be too sloppy.

if it isnt too big for your stencils, you could use a small 4" foam whiz roller. they are quite versatile

a roller might be better for a DIYer, since it will be easier to keep paint in the lines...
