To begin with I feel it is important to note that I did not follow directions, I DIY'd lol. I am trying to apply an antique finish on a shelving unit that I made.
I put two rough coats of primer over the wood cause I was going to paint it white. but then I glanced to a quart of polyshades that I have and decided to try something on a test 2x4. I primed it, and wiped on some of the stain/poly in one; it dried, and looked great. So now that I have gone ahead and wiped the actual shelf, but it is staying tacky and not drying fully.
As polyshades can be used over an existing clear coat I figured it does not require the same ability to soak into the wood that normal stains do...; am I wrong? Will it dry? (seems to be drying slightly with time.) Could I spray poly over it from this point? or, do I have to strip it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks team.
