Stain a large concrete patio (or paint?)

I am thinking of staining my concrete patio. It's a LOT of square footage. Some of the concrete is directly in the hot Arizona sun, some of it is under the covered patio.

1. The concrete was laid at two different times and it looks slightly different. Is this going to cause a big problem if I stain the concrete?

2. What is the best brand of stain that I can buy for a DIY project like this.

If a stain is going to look really weird because of the slight differences in color/texture, my alternative is painting the concrete. What would be the best brand for that job?

thanks.

If you stain the concrete I would use H&C concrete stain which can be bought at sherwin williams. You can also get concrete stain in a solid finish, so it will be more uniform. If you went with paint I would use Sherwin Williams Shercrete it is a breathable, flexible, acrylic waterproofer that also bridges small cracks. We use it on concrete in the ground pool decking and other vertical and horizontal masonry surfaces. It also comes in practically any color you would like
