SPAR VARNISH vs SPAR POLY

For years I have used spar varnish on outdoor projects the advantage was after a few years if it needed redone a light sanding and reapply and it looked like new. Unlike poly that once it started to look dull and weatherbeaten it had to be sanded completely off and reapplied, a lot of work. And for the spar varnish Helmsman is the most visible brand.
Now it is very hard to find Spar Varnish every place has Spar Poly. I guess my question is has anyone used the poly and what were your results and have you touched it up, and again the results.

Use Bristol Finish instead. 5 Time the UV protection of Spar, self leveling, quick drying.

SPAR VARNISH vs SPAR POLY

Nope, sold all over the world. Any boat place like West Marine, Jamestown Distributers and thousands of others will have it.
Not cheap but it's what real classic boat restorers use.
I've seen them do three coats in a single day and have it hold up for at least 10 years.

SPAR VARNISH vs SPAR POLY

Without knowing what you’re going to use it for it’s difficult to say which is best. If you’re going to use it on doors other than boats, I’ve seen the light and switched form Man-o-War exterior spar and Pratt & Lambert Vitralite Spar to GENERAL FINISHES Exterior 450 acrylic poly spar. OUTSTANDING product. This stuff will outlast oil base products 2 to 1. I could go on for hours about this company, but suffice it to say, every product I have used has surpassed my every expectation. They’re out of Wisconsin and definitely worth a phone call to learn more. They are the future not a substitute answer.

I wouldn’t suggest using they’re products if you’re not ultra confident / experienced with a brush. Spray is probably the best bet. The 450 drys faster than lacquer and you can multi coat in a day. I just finished a Thomasville night stand that I sent out to have stripped, I used two of their other products in their line and the end result put the original Thomasville finish to shame.

It took a lot for me to eventually try an acrylic product where I only used oil base, but at this point in time there isn’t enough money to ever get me to go back to oil base. Cold temperatures are the only draw back.
