SOS* Paint Sprayer HELP Needed

I have a couple of questions about useing a airless paint sprayer. We are primeing drywall in a new construction. Never done this before. The sprayer (Mangum 1970)is new and it seems to be putting our to much paint, or we are doing something wrong. Do you have to go fast and stand a good distance from the wall. We have been trying to keep 12 inches away. After my daughter sprayed and we saw it was way to thick I rolled it out. This is my daughters house and she wants the drywall to be smooth, will rolling out the primer mess up the smooth finish? Does primer have to totally cover the drywall in a solid white, the same if it were the paint or can it be thinner. Any tips would be so helpful. We would have hired a painted but we have not had any luck with the quality of work from the local contractors. We have had to redo just about every thing so we decided to try this our selves.

Thank you so very much for your help. You can email me at sandoftime@aol.com or answer here thanks again.

SOS* Paint Sprayer HELP Needed

What tip size do you have?

One coat of primer is all you need. It's supposed to have an opaque look, not solid white. At least in your application.

Rolling out the primer will change the look, but not much. You might have to give it an extra coat.

SOS* Paint Sprayer HELP Needed

Thank you for your help. The tip size is 17 (I think or 15) Someone on another help board suggested I thin the paint )Sherwin Williams Build Tech), it was so thick like glue.We did that and turned down the pressure and it is working better. Your answer to how much is really helpful as my daughter thought it should be solid white. The opaque look makes more sense. We have used 10 gallons in a room approimatly 15x40. Thanks again your answer was one we really needed to know.
