Soot falling from sprayed basement ceiling

I had my basement ceiling (unfinished wood trusses, joists, etc.) sprayed flat black a month ago. We are still getting a fine layer of black soot on the surfaces after vacuuming and wiping down everything. Where is it coming from and how do I stop it.

Soot falling from sprayed basement ceiling

People walking on the above floor might be loosening up the over spray dust. You might want to get a compressor and air spray it all down.
