Sometimes crap just happens,and those times that you "should" just take a step back, take a breath and laugh at it, most of us never do.If your like me you flip out. Last night got the last of my mantle/surround(jsheridan and M1951mm you two may remember when i started this, well since then,I scrapped the first two columes and redid them) all assembled, laying perfectly flat on assembly table, got my mini roller, brushs ready, mixed primer real good and started priming, leaning in towards middle of table touching up the last few spots and that dayum can slipped out of my hand and landed perfectly flat on its bottom in center of table and sent about half of it straight up in air and splashed everywhere, over tools, me the peice , just a mess. after flipping out, and cleaning up mess and brushing the mantle thin, I just had to laugh about it, laugh at myself for losing it. I know the pro's in here may not find it funny if it happened while making that money, so just wanted to share that incase ya needed a chuckle, Im going to post the mantle hopefully next week if i can get it down

Bummer! Almost as good as when my foot made the top flip on a 5er trying to seal it and went in to my shin!

It is actually amazing when you think of painting as taking a highly pigmented viscous liquid, removing it from a can and spreading it on a vertical surface- that it is even possible to have it just go where you want to.
kind of boggles if you think about it too much!! '

Spilled TWO cans of oil-based paint on brick of house and sidewalk.........all in the same day.......yes, it does happen to us all.

I can share many oops stories. But I did luck out once when physics was on my side. In my early days, I climbed about ten feet up a ladder with a half gallon of oil base paint to do a small touch up, overtop an exposed concrete walkway. I somehow lost my grip on the handle and the can just dropped straight down, perfectly straight. It hit the ground and a geyser of brown paint shot a few feet in the air. Horrified, I watched, in almost slow motion, as the geyser shot up and dropped straight back down into the can perfectly. A few little droplets on the ground but nothing else. I really dodged that bullet. Qeulle chance! (Chrisn, translation?).
If you haven't spilled paint, you haven't painted long enough. The worst is when you step in a paint tray.

Oh, that was def a good chuckle! Thanks for sharing. I've had more than my fair share of Oops stories!

which it NEVER does

after all these years,I still find it hard to believe that while cleaning up I will find a perfect drop of paint 6 or 7 feet away from where I was painting crown

Qeulle chance! what luck?
step in paint tray? many times
step into a 5 of wash water while papering; done
knock over paint cans, plenty
splatter paint and or stain all over while hammering on the lid, don't ask
as joe said if you have not spilled some paint, you are not painting enough

I ALWAYS put a rag on top of the can to catch any splatter before tapping the lid back on.

I'm usually reminded to do that after I've splattered paint all over the place.
Chrisn, I saw a stringer of paint fly off the brush and hit exactly on the little tiny hole in the drop, perfect shot, leaving me a dark splotch on a white rug. A guy I know of says, "If I can see the floor, so can the paint". I guess he's right.

Isn't it amazing that you can have ONE drop of paint find that ONE piece of carpet your dropcloths didn't cover? Always amazes me.

i always use s/w extra white semi on trim and same color but flat on ceilings .mabey every 2 or 3 years because of rushing around or probably just not thinking ill mix the flat and semi together then when it drys ,well lets just say its not good.yea i know its marked on the front of the can but just like the t shirt says ship happens
