Smoothing Painted Wood

Hi All,

I have a half wall separating the kitchen from the den and on top of this wall is a small area for ornaments. It's been painted several times over the years and the surface is no longer smooth.

I've tried sanding but sanding doesn't seem to work on painted surfaces.

How do I handle this?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Try an orbital sander. Find a grit that will take the edges, brushmarks, etc. off and go to a finer grit to finish. Since this is in your house use a vaccum attachment to minimize the dust.

The makers of Bondo also make a finer paste to use to fill in and skim over traditional bondo as a finish coat. They now make a general purpose bondo for home projects. This might help fill some of the low spots after Kboyz treatment, don't try to sand out low spots, fill them. It's available at your local supplier of Behr paint.
