Skimcoat problems

The ceiling of my bedroom had termite damage and chipping paint, so after chipping off what I could I decided to skimcoat it. I put up adhesive mesh - with some trouble doing it alone, but eventually got the entire ceiling covered, although there are some bubbles in it.
I started skimcoating using lightweight joint compound, getting about 3 by 10 feet up, before checking out the label and realizing I was using the wrong type. I scraped off what I could, but the corner still had a pretty thick coat.

I bought all purpose joint compound, which the guy at the paint store said was fine for skim coating, with added plaster of paris.
My problem is that I don't know if it is alright to skimcoat over the lightweight compound using all purpose joint compound, or do I need to peel of the mesh and compound that I already put up, and start again.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Skimcoat problems

If the lightweight stuff is sticking --you're fine---

The all purpose has glue in it and will stick well to old painted surfaces--That is what I use for the first coat-then I switch to the blue lid mud,as that is much easier to sand.--Mike--

Do you add plaster when you skim coat?

Your fine. You don't need to add plaster for a skim coat either, especially on a ceiling.
