Sealing, clear and good for high heat?

Anyone know the temp range for minmax Polyurethane? Or anything that would seal The edges of boards, make them smooth and can resist temps up to 400 degrees?
Making platens for a screen printing press.

Why are platens for a screen press getting so hot? I know the process and I guess constant friction could be an issue. Why would you be making your own?
