Sealer coat over sprayed woodwork

My friend built a nice house which has mdf woodwork throughout. He claims the guy who sprayed the woodwork finished it with some type of a clear coat sealer. It looks really nice, just curious if anyone may know what product that may have been or if such a thing exists.

Not sure if the trim was sprayed with latex or oil?

You can get clear coats, polyurethanes, etc. in both oil and water based formulations. Ask your paint store. They all have a tendency sometimes to chip though. In my opinion a nice semi or high gloss paint looks just as nice? Allow time for your base coat of paint to cure, especially if latex.
