Screwed up theatreroom paint

I am doing a theatre room in the basement.

I wanted to paint the room dark gray (like a dark gray Toyota camry without the shine)

I used a primer.
The paint looks FLAT BLACK, not FLAT gray.

Can I just buy gray paint and and paint over?

how do I make it lighter? Sponge painting?
Being a theatre room's need dark flat paint.

Let me know, thanks!

Yes, Just go a couple shades lighter than what you picked out before. Maybe just get a quart this time to see if it is the right color first.
