scraped popcorn - any tips before i texture?

so i've scraped a bunch of popcorn and am getting ready to texture. the taped seams look good and flat and there's hardly any damage to repair.

what type of primer should i use? do i prime the ceiling first then texture, or texture first then prime?

any tips would be great!

thanks!

I am assuming you are refering to texture paint. There are 2 reasons why you should prime first. First is you get a more durable and even coverage. The second reason is that applying texture paint over an already primed surface will keep a wet edge longer and it is critical when applying a texture paint.

Definitely prime first. Often there is residual dust after you scrape/sand and your new texture will not bond properly if the old surface isn't sealed.

I would prime first after thoroughly vacuuming and tacking to remove sanding dust. If using popcorn (as opposed to texture paint), I would prime the texture itself after application.

no, i'm not going to use a texture paint. i'm going to do a knock down texture. any good primer you all recommend?

Prime first
A quality primer from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, or Pittsburgh would be just great
