Which Roller Cover?

As stated SW will never exactly match the Duron ( probably shell white) paint. You will need to cut in.

SW can't match exactly from one gallon to the next let alone going from factory mix to store mix over a three year span. I had very similar problems when SW took over MAB.
Then you have the old finish fade factor. Then you have the 18" inch kit factor. With an 18" set up you need at least a four inch cut. I'd say if you're picky, cut in.
I recently landed a large Condo project, all new construction. The job super demands I use Sherwin Williams paints. I too have noticed they suck at matching paint colors. They can't even get their own Flat Dove White to be consistent from one Five gallon bucket to the next. It's ridiculous.

Sorry for the thread hijack, back to your regularly scheduled program.

At first I thought you were talking about matching a paint color you brought in. My local Sherwin Williams used to match color by hand. I guess they thought it was more "professional" that way, but they could never match paint, not nearly as good as the computer at Home Depot. It was a mess. Now of course they have a computer too.

But since you're talking about simply matching their own colors can to can, I'm a little surprised. That could only be due to a miscalibrated paint mixer, or bad colorant, or gross user error, or something like that. Kind of strange that those would be happening. I've never had a problem with SW colors matching.

On thing I've noticed is that YMMV when it comes to customer service at SW. I've been both thoroughly impressed as well as downright disgusted by their professionalism at times. You can really tell the employees that actually enjoy the business of paint. I've talked to multiple people at my local SW that were unaware that Graco sold FF tips. I was also told that the FF tip will fit into the regular tip guard - WRONG! I take most of what they say with a grain of salt. I still prefer them over the big box stores.

Does BM ever have these types of sales? I've never used any of their products.

What types of sales, bad ones? I really think it mostly has to do with who's in your local store. Then again, I'm sure BM and SW could do better corporate training.

Sorry- I should have been more clear. SW has their 40% off sale (AKA normal pricing) deal going on this weekend.

A longtime painting cousin of mine calls it Sherwin's Rainbow. He worked exclusively with it for ten years under a contractor. He was on a job for me once where we had four gallons of the same color. He asked me if I wanted him to box them up. Being a BM guy, I'm not accustomed to having to box paint, and rarely have to. He told me they're not going to be consistent. And, he showed me. He popped all four lids and I stood there and could see the difference without a drop test.

I don't know if this is old history, or a local colorant machine problem, or what, but I've never seen anything like that. And the only "boxing" I do with SW paint is start pouring out the next gallon in the tray before all the old paint is gone. Never saw a color problem.

I truly believe it's a store by store thing. My local BM store can't get their socks to match, and the local SW isn't much better. As much as it hurt's me to say this the absolutely best for color match is HD in my area.
